ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Mel

I’ve been on both sides of the therapy experience, and know what it’s like to need a safe and secure relationship in which to look directly at hard things. I know what it’s like to struggle and to take the leap of reaching out to an unknown person in the hope they understand and can help.

I value authentic connection, safety and empathy in my therapeutic work. I believe that every person is struggling with pain and unmet needs and that working with a trusted therapist can be a way to safely explore the things that matter and open up new possibilities.

My professional expertise

I am an endorsed Mental Health Occupational Therapist with more than two decades of clinical experience providing mental health care to women and families. I began my career working with mothers facing severe mental health difficulties in the postnatal period. I went on to work with parents and children with attachment difficulties, then adolescents with severe mental health concerns. I was soon drawn to the specialised area of child and adolescent mental health, working with parents and children across all ages with complex emotional and behavioural needs. I have worked in the health and education sectors and have volunteered in the community with new parents. I now run a small private practice focussed on supporting women at all stages of life.

Throughout my career I have chosen to work exclusively with women, children and families, supporting them to navigate some of the most difficult challenges of life. My work is informed by attachment and trauma research, neurobiological understandings of safety, and psychodynamic approaches to psychotherapy. I am inspired by the work of Brené Brown, Kent Hoffman, Deb Dana, Kimberley Quinlain and Winnie Dunn and most particularly by the largely invisible work of women in their everyday lives.
